The elderly of Albania are increasingly isolated and lonely. To address the growing number of forgotten elderly people in society, the Albanian Relief Service has established a programme to assist those who are suffering, without the support of their families or the government.

‘Old is Gold’ provides daily healthcare and support. Elderly members of the community can socialise at the warm and friendly centre and learn skills with young Order volunteers. The programme works with local businesses and the government to raise awareness of the major problems faced by the forgotten elderly and the importance of offering them support.

“We aim to provide services that allow the beneficiaries to regain their dignity, and to make them feel that they are a valuable and precious part of our society.”

Maranaj Marku, Executive Director, Albanian Relief Service
