In Bulgaria, orphans and disabled children living in state institutions rarely have opportunities to leave their institutions, particularly over the summer holidays.

H.E. Ambassador Camillo Zuccoli, the late Ambassador of the Order of Malta to Bulgaria, wanted to provide more stimulation for these children. He organised summer holidays to give up to 30 of these children a summer holiday, take them on outdoor excursions, allow them to socialise with other children and encourage their artistic talents through art workshops. Artwork done by the children during the camps is published and presented in the presence of the children to the media, representatives of the State Institutions and the Diplomatic corps in an official ceremony.

The camps have been running since 2014. With support from the Fund over the last few years, the number of children able to attend the camps has doubled.
