We are deeply sad to hear of the cancellation of the Order’s 62nd International Pilgrimage to Lourdes and other international conferences planned for the coming weeks due to the coronavirus pandemic, but commend these decisions taken in the interests of the most vulnerable, in line with the Order’s 900-year-old mission of caring indiscriminately for those in need.

In the face of the outbreak, now more than ever we must remember those who are often forgotten – our elderly, the sick and those without robust healthcare systems to support them – and do our duty to keep them safe.

At a time where the spotlight of media attention shines upon this new crisis, the Global Fund for Forgotten People is committed to maintaining its support for Order of Malta works caring for societies’ most vulnerable groups – the isolated, the homeless, young mothers without healthcare – whose cries for help can so easily go unheard in these turbulent times.
