The Order of Malta provides meals to 5,000 needy seniors each year in Cuba – but so many still face poverty, isolation and ill health. The COVID-19 pandemic has made these desperate needs even more acute.

“When I leave the house and my neighbours ask me where I’m going, I say: ‘to my second home!’ I am so happy here.” Mercedes

The Order of Malta’s network of food halls and day care centres in Cuba is a trusted lifeline for thousands of elderly people like Mercedes, who have no family left and struggle to survive on little or no income.

Today they need your help more than ever.

The Global Fund for Forgotten People* has partnered with the Order of Malta in Cuba to develop food halls into day care centres, providing all-round care for the vulnerable people they serve. The Order’s day care centres provide exercise classes, laundry services and recreational activities as well as food, caring for the whole person so nobody is left behind.

Thank you for helping us make a brighter Christmas and a better year ahead for the forgotten elderly in Cuba.

*The Global Fund for Forgotten People raises money to support Order of Malta projects that benefit the most disadvantaged in society. To date the Fund has made over 400 grants in support of forgotten people around the world. The Fund also promotes best practice and knowledge-sharing between Order of Malta projects, and supports existing projects to increase their scale and access other sources of funding. In order to do all of this, a percentage of donations goes towards the Fund’s own activities.  We strive to keep costs as low as possible, and currently that figure stands at 10%.

Hunting for meaningful Christmas presents this year? Why not give an Unforgettable Gift: a donation in support of forgotten people around the world?
