Malteser International’s project to improve healthcare in Colombia supported by the Global Fund for Forgotten People

Over 1 and a half billion of the world’s poor, including 500 million children, suffer from one or more neglected tropical diseases a breed of illness that makes victim’s lives almost unbearably difficult.

The Global Fund for Forgotten People supports Malteser International’s project to improve healthcare and response to disease outbreaks in Colombia. The project addresses important gaps in health by improving the access to medicine, so that the local population are better prepared to react to disease outbreaks, such as the Zika virus or Dengue fever. The service helps to educate the community on infectious disease and preventative measures. It operates in the regions of La Guajira and Magdalena, in Northern Colombia.
