This work, carried out by CISOM since 2013, provides emergency medical assistance to immigrants who are trying to escape from war, persecution, or areas affected by famine and drought. As well as the doctors and nurses, volunteers also play an active role in providing support, which will also extend to the local institutions affected by the influx of migrants. The aid is provided at sea, close to the Sicilian and the Calabrian coasts and since 2013, over 87,500 people have been reached. This grant will cover part of the project management costs: one doctor, one logistician, both from September 2016 to August 2017, their travel and accommodation, as well as purchase of first aid supplies and medicines.
