Healthcare for Marginalised Communities, Colombia

This programme targets the 1300-strong marginalised, indigenous Arhuaco community in the remote Sierra Nevada Mountains of Colombia.

Malteser Americas is working with the Cuban and Colombian Associations to capacity-build locally with three goals (1) to build a clinic and ensure it runs successfully (2) provide two medical missions a year and (3) assess the current water and septic systems prior to putting in place appropriate measures for safe water and sanitation.  Volunteer architects are working alongside local people to do the majority of the building, supplemented by outside medical expertise and training programmes to ensure the project can be run locally in the longer term.
