Mentoring Children of Prisoners, New Jersey, USA

This grant provides mentors for 40 children aged 5-17 with incarcerated family members, encouraging positive youth development, providing them with goals, hope and a sense of connection to their communities.

Disenfranchised youth are far more likely to break the law, become addicted to drugs, have unplanned pregnancies, engage in antisocial behaviour and perform badly at school; the children of prisoners are greatly at risk here. Volunteer mentors are trained and supported, signing up for a minimum of a year.
